Des Plaines River Valley Volunteers
The Des Plaines River Valley Restoration Project protects the environment by preserving natural habitat. We remove invasive plant species -- non-native plants like buckthorn and garlic mustard -- to make room for native plants, including threatened and endangered species. It’s called ecological restoration and our goal is to increase biodiversity.
We work in Cook County, Illinois, in the western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago. We work with public landowners like the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and municipal governments. We have restoration sites in Brookfield, Des Plaines, Hodgkins, LaGrange Park, Lyons, Oak Park, Riverside, Schiller Park, Westchester, and Western Springs. We work in prairies, savannas, and woodlands.
We have a workday every weekend of the year, including this weekend. If you’re age 6 to 96, you can help. No experience is needed; we provide the tools and the know-how.
